Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series
The Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series is a group of three road races in Grand Rapids and East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The series includes the Spectrum Health Irish Jig 5K, Reeds Lake Run 5k and Brian Diemer Family of Races 5K.
This series is open to all businesses, educational institutions and other similar groups. Each organization may enter as many teams as it wishes. Runners may participate in one, two or all three legs, but teams must enter and finish all three races to be eligible for the overall awards.
Triple Crown Instructions Document
• Team captain registration must be done online prior to individual team member registration
• Division I must have at least five runners to score as a team.
• Division II must have at least four runners to score as a team.
• Teams are limited to 10 runners. Organizations with only one team can have up to 15 runners on their team.
• This is a low-score-wins event.
• For each race that your CEO, president or equivalent executive finishes, your team will have 10 percent of the team score for that race deducted.
• A $25 gift certificate to Gazelle Sports will be given to each runner who completes all three races.
Awards will be given to the top three teams in each division for each race. Team awards will be in the form of a plaque or trophy, and will be handed out during the award ceremony at each event. Teams must complete all three races to be eligible for overall Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series awards.
After the 3rd race, Brian Diemer Family of Races, the top three teams in each division according to lowest combined scores the overall winner will be announced. Awards than can be picked up at Gazelle Sports. The top three teams in each division will receive a special award for their accomplishments throughout the series.
Each runner who completes all three races will receive a $25 Gazelle Sports gift certificate. Certificates will be mailed to each team captain shortly after the Brian Diemer Family of Races 5k.
*Awards will be mailed out to each teams Captain within 30 days of the last event.
For each team, the top five (Division I) or four (Division II) finishers, according to their place in their age group, will be combined for that team’s race score. In case of a tie, the team’s next nonscoring runner with the fastest time will be used as the tie breaker.
After completion of the Brian Diemer Family of Races 5k, team scores for all three events will be combined to determine each team’s overall standing for the Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series. For each race that your CEO, president or equivalent executive finishes, your team will have 10 percent of the team score for that race deducted.
Cost: $50 per team
To participate, runners must work at least 20 hours per week as employees of the organization for which they are competing. Retired employees and spouses of full time employees also are allowed to compete for the organization. Teams may be co-ed. There is no male to-female ratio requirement.
Runners that compete on a team during the Spectrum Health Irish Jig may NOT switch teams for the Reeds Lake Run 5K and Brian Diemer Family of Races 5k. However, you may add new runners as replacements for the Reeds Lake 5k and Reeds Lake Run 5K as long as your roster does not exceed 10 runners. Rosters for organizations with only one team cannot exceed 15 runners. A team may not include runners who have already competed for another team.
All employees participating in the Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series must compete for the same organization throughout the series, even if they change jobs during the year.
Each race will have a general registration area with a posting of all Gazelle Sports Triple Crown participants’ names and their assigned bib number. Each team member may pick up his or her packet. If one individual is to pick up all team member packets, that person will need to know each participant’s name, age, gender and date of birth in order to locate all assigned bib number.
Online Team Registration
Registration for the Gazelle Sports Triple Crown Series will be available online only. Team captains must register online before the team members can register for the individual events.
There will be a one-time series entry fee of $50 per team. This fee is in addition to individual team member entry fees for each race. Teams may compete in one, two or three series races per team fee, and each team must pay the entry fee prior to the first race they compete in. The proceeds of this fee help cover the cost of awards and the cost of gift certificates given to each runner who completes all three races.
Paying team fee by check
Fill out the team captain online registration form and select 'paying by check'. Checks must be received before the event registration deadline in order for the team to be active.
Checks should be made payable to Gazelle Sports.
If so, fill out the team captain online registration form and select either 50% or 100%. A code will be generated at the end for team members to use when they register for each event. The same code will be used for all three events. After each event the codes will be added up and your company will be billed for the appropriate amount.
Please note that the Gazelle Sports Triple Crown registration deadline is the WEDNESDAY before the event. You must register online to participate on a team. No exceptions will be made.
