Walk

Walk with us this spring/summer/fall at the Walkin' on the Wild Side series. Enjoy the outdoors and learn more about the natural environment that surrounds us in Kalamazoo. These walks are free and are a great activities for walkers of all ages!

Our Historic Walks program will resume June of 2013. Learn about the history and architecture behind some of Kalamazoo's historic buildings and homes. These walks are also free and are wonderful for all ages!

5k Training Programs

Borgess Run Camp "A World of Good"
We've taken the approach to group training and turned it on its head. We have created a system that makes the individual feel a part of the team and the team a part of the large camp experience. This traditional 13-week Borgess Run Camp experience begins February 2. This appeals to novices and experienced runners alike, with training for the 5k and half marathon.

Gazelle Sports 5k Training Program - Girls on the Run
Would you like to run the Girls on the Run 5k but are not sure where to begin? We've designed this 9 week 5k training program just for you! Our program is for couch-to-5k runners, beginner runners, and runners returning from a hiatus!  This program provides participants with educational clinics, built-in strength training, and experienced coaches who are able to provide individualized assistance.  We are also happy to offer an added option through The Fitness Spot to incorporate core strength training and flexibility to benefit all levels of runners!  This program was developed in partnership with Greater Kalamazoo Girls on the Run to prepare you to run in the celebratory Girls on the Run 5k on May 23, 2013.

10k Training Programs

Gazelle Sports 10k Training Program - Kalamazoo Klassic
We've designed this 9 week 10k training program for beginner runners who are looking to increase their distance, runners experienced in the 5k ready to challenge themselves with a 10k, and runners returning from hiatus with some fitness under their belt.  Our program provides participants with educational clinics, built-in strength training, and experienced coaches who are able to assist you at an individual level.  Our program is sure to get you to the finish line in a fun and supportive group atmosphere!  This program prepares runners for the Kalamazoo Klassic 10k on June 15, 2013.  Participants should be able to run 2.5 to 3 miles comfortably at the start of the program.

Gazelle Sports Summer Safari Half Marathon Training Program
We've designed this 18 week training program for beginner runners looking to complete their first half marathon or full marathon as well as runners who have already crossed the finish line but would like to run a personal best! Our training program offers significant support on your long runs by providing experienced coaches, unique and varied routes, and nutrition and hydration stations.  This program also offers opportunities for speed training at a track, educational clinics, and mid-week runs.  By signing up for this program you will also receive a one year membership to local area running club: KAR (Kalamazoo Area Runners). Note: You must be able to run 4 miles by the start of this program.

Marathon Training Programs

Borgess Run Camp "Good Grief" Marathon Training
We've taken the approach to group training and turned it on its head. We have created a system that makes the individual feel a part of the team and the team a part of the large camp experience. Over the span of 20 weeks starting December 8, Borgess Run Camp has an experience for marathoners that provides a little more guidance and support, longer runs, more GU and GU Brew. Runners must be able to run six or seven miles without stopping prior to the beginning of camp.

Triathlon

Gazelle Sports Indoor Triathlon Training Program - Gazelle Sports Indoor Triathlon
This is a great opportunity to train for a triathlon! Whether you're starting out, starting over, or looking to take your training to the next level, we want to get you to the finish line! Basic swimming skills required. Training takes place at the YMCA Maple St. branch with swimming and cycling on spin bikes done indoors and running outdoors, for 20 minutes each. This group leads up to the Gazelle Sports Indoor Triathlon on April 21, 2013.

Gazelle Sports Outdoor Triathlon Training Program
This is a great opportunity to train for a triathlon! Whether you're starting out, starting over, or looking to take your training to the next level, we want to get you to the finish line! Basic swimming skills required. Participants must have bike suitable for riding and helmet.

O.R.C. - Outside Regular Conditioning

A CrossFit endurance training program brought to you by Gazelle Sports and CrossFit AZO. This 8 week training program will increase strength, endurance, and mobility. What you get: Experienced coaches, structured group workouts five days a week, access to CrossFit AZO open gym times during program, training schedule specific to your sport (running, triathlon, etc.), and a tech shirt.
